This is the most common question I hear before the photoshoots, so let's get straight to the point:
First of all, this is NOT mandatory. I don’t want you to overthink the wardrobe :P What I really wanna have is comfortable people being themselves!
IF I HAD JUST ONE THING TO ADVISE: DON’T MATCH. COORDINATE
Matching is out dated, coordinating outfits is in, and anything goes these days. Coordinating outfits gives you a chance to express yours and your family's personality. Choose 2-3 main colours of the wardrobe and add one colour as a pop.
WEAR CLOTHES YOU LOVE
When you feel great about what you're wearing, it makes a huge difference on camera.
SOLID COLORS ARE THE KEY
Please avoid large patterns, logotypes, inscriptions and everything that may , it become a distraction. Monochromatic clothes look most favourable.
CONSIDER THE SEASON
Winter: When everything is grey, try colors like red, dark green and add some bright color on it!
Autumn: dark red, black, dark orange, yellow and white are the best options!
Spring and summer: Pastel/bright colors are my favo!
Family photography need to be authentic, although I think jeans are the timeless choice! It’s good to have color-coordinated outfits, but nothing like a uniform, please! Think you're a team. Jeans / khaki’s and white tops are always very nice for a family portrait.
If your goal is to show your belly, I recommend long skirt + cropped / low pants + top, both without prints. Tight dresses (that shape the belly) with comfortable shoes are always a good option!
A pair of baby shoes (avoid crochet ones, preference for darker colors and "stiff" shoes)
- Ultrasound photos;
- Baby clothes.

Loose, long, romantic and fluffy dresses are great to create a movement. The same for maxi skirts.
- Bots or shoes that you don't mind to get dirty
Bring a good jacket
Spring in The Netherlands can be colder than we are expecting. So feel free to bring a jacket/coat so you can keep yourself warm between the shots.
Keep it simple and comfortable. For this session, less is more. Avoid stamps and distracting (colorful) objects around the house. Monochromatic bedding is always a good idea :)
For Lifestyle Newborn sessions: light colors are the best option.
Wrinkled / stained clothing can make a bad impression on your photo. Don't be afraid to use the iron ;P
Wear clothes that represent you, your daily life. For linkedIn photos, look for the most neutral clothes possible, without many stripes or prints.
Team/Group Photos: Please discuss about the clothes they will wear. The tips given in this Guide for external sessions apply, but people do not need to combine at all (even because it's very interesting to see the diversity of a company), however it is important to avoid distracting prints or colors that conflict with the environment of the photo.
